Terms of Service

Last updated: March 30, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using Paper Stuff, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. These terms constitute a binding agreement between you and the operator of Paper Stuff.

2. Description of Service

Paper Stuff is a document management application for financial documents such as invoices, receipts, salary statements, and identity documents. The service uses AI-powered classification (Google Document AI and Google Gemini) to automatically categorize and extract information from your uploaded documents.

Paper Stuff is currently in closed alpha. This means the service is under active development, features may change or be removed, and access is granted on an invitation basis.

3. Account Registration

You may register using Google OAuth, GitHub OAuth, or email/password. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.

You agree to provide accurate information during registration and to notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Paper Stuff to:

  • Upload illegal, fraudulent, or malicious content
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or data
  • Interfere with or disrupt the service or its infrastructure
  • Use the service in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the service
  • Use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or otherwise extract data from the service beyond the provided API

5. Your Data

You own your documents. Any files you upload to Paper Stuff remain your property. We do not claim ownership of your content.

By uploading documents, you grant Paper Stuff a limited license to process, store, and transmit your documents solely for the purpose of providing the service to you. This includes sending documents to Google Document AI and Google Gemini for classification, OCR, and data extraction.

Certain personal data within your documents (payment details, extraction results, full text) is encrypted at rest using per-user encryption keys. For full details on how your data is handled, please see our Privacy Policy.

You may delete your documents at any time. When you delete a document, it is removed from our storage. If you have configured an external archival destination (Google Drive, Nextcloud, or S3-compatible storage), copies synced to those services are governed by those services' own terms.

6. Service Availability

Paper Stuff is provided on a best-effort basis. As an alpha-stage service run by an individual developer, there are no uptime guarantees or service level agreements (SLAs).

The service may experience downtime for maintenance, updates, or unforeseen issues. We will make reasonable efforts to keep the service available but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the service (or any part of it) at any time, with or without notice. In the event of a permanent shutdown, we will make reasonable efforts to give users time to export their data.

7. Limitation of Liability

Paper Stuff is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

AI-powered classification and data extraction are automated processes that may produce incorrect results. You should always verify extracted data (amounts, dates, categories) before relying on it for financial, tax, or legal purposes.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the operator of Paper Stuff shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or revenue, whether incurred directly or indirectly, arising from your use of the service.

8. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where practicable, notify you via email. Your continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

9. Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of the service shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts in Germany.

10. Contact

If you have questions about these Terms of Service, you can reach us at [email protected].

This document is not legal advice. Paper Stuff is currently operated by an individual in Germany, not a registered company. These terms are written in good faith to set clear expectations for both the operator and users of the service.
